Tips & Tricks To Fix Core Web Vitals
5 Ways To Improve Your Page Speed Score (part 2)
Hopefully you checked out my previous post about using Wordpress caching plugins to improve pagespeed score and your fix core web vitals.
Today we’ll be talking about optimizing images, which I’ve found to be the most common cause of failed core web vitals!
2. Optimize Your Images
Big images take longer to load. No one likes a slow site. Use an image optimization plugin like Smush to automatically compress your images. It’s like making your images smaller in filesize!
1. Smush
Why It’s Cool: Smush is super easy to use. It’ll compress, resize, and even lazy load your images.
Quick Tip: The free version is solid, but the Pro version will optimize images up to 32MB. That’s some heavy lifting!
2. TinyPNG
Why It’s Cool: It’s not a plugin, but you can upload your images to their site to optimize them before adding them to WordPress.
Quick Tip: If you’re uploading just a couple of images, this manual method works great. For bulk, you might want to go with a plugin.
3. EWWW Image Optimizer
Why It’s Cool: This plugin can optimize images you’ve already uploaded. How’s that for a time-saver?
Quick Tip: It runs in the background, so once it’s set up, it’s pretty hands-off.
4. ShortPixel
Why It’s Cool: This plugin is a great option for those who are serious about image optimization but want to maintain quality.
Quick Tip: It gives you the option to convert images to WebP format, which is smaller in size but high in quality.
4. Performance Lab
Why It’s Cool: A plugin straight from the horse’s mouth, Wordpress that converts uploads to .webp
Quick Tip: This plugin doesn’t work straight out of the box, you’ll need some NGINX or server rules in order to serve .webp images correctly
Summary
Optimizing images doesn’t have to be a tedious task. Whether you’re looking for an automated solution like Smush or more control with TinyPNG, there’s an option for you. Keep the visuals stunning and the loading time low—that’s the dream, right?
